International cooperation is necessary to protect the millions of children left vulnerable to abuse and exploitation following natural disasters.

Addressing the Human Rights Council, UN Human Rights Chief Navi Pillay says imprisonment of children should be considered only as a last resort.

The right to the truth was first recognized in cases of missing and disappeared persons. Its importance in that context has not abated, but the right has evolved and its application has been extended to other gross violations of human rights.
