The Secretary-General published his New Vision for the Rule of Law in follow-up to his 2021 Our Common Agenda report (A/75/982) where he committed to promote a new vision for the rule of law in support of efforts to put people at the centre of justice.

A/HRC/54/51: Arbitrary detention - Report of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention

In 2022, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, under its regular procedure, adopted 88 opinions concerning the detention of 160 persons in 50 countries. It also transmitted 43 urgent appeals to 22 Governments and, in one case, to other actors, and 111 allegation letters and other letters to 61 Governments and, in three cases, to other actors, concerning at least 356 identified individuals.

The present report is submitted pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 49/19, in which the Council requested the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a report presenting the vision of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for reinforcing its work in promoting and protecting economic, social and cultural rights within the context of addressing inequalities in the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
