The subsequent isolation of the people and their descendants caused increasing deviations from the original Dutch, so that Afrikaans may now be considered a separate language, with lexical and syntactic borrowings from Bantu and Khoisan languages and also other European languages (French and English). Afrikaans is also spoken in Namibia (over 150,000 home speakers).
